Social Media woes. Also Chants of Sennaar.

So I'm not doing Lexember. I'll be creating in that little language program I'm working on, probably. Don't hold your breath for that either, I've got the big gift project to work on too, and I would like to get that done for christmas...

What else is going on this week..? Uhh... I broke the lid of the mug I drink tea out of. It slipped out of my hand like ten inches from the countertop and chipped.

Oh, and the other month I was playing Chants of Sennaar and today I've been thinking about it. I think my favourite language is either the alchemist language or bard language. I love the alchemists having numbers and I love how they write their numbers! And I love how their glyphs are clearly inspired by alchemical symbols. But on the The bard language has clearer glyphs in my mind and! it's my favourite word order. OSV my beloved. So, If I was gonna learn/extend one (I'm considering it) it would be the Bard Language.

So, as for the rest of what I have to talk about today... the other day the creator of the extension I use to unfuck Tumblr's UI decided she was done with the entire ordeal and honestly? I don't blame her at all. She updated the extension to make the logo read 'tumblr hates trans women' and yeah. Given that every other day I hear that a trans woman has been banned from tumblr for the crime of existing, I'm inclined to agree. It made me wonder, honestly, why I'm still on tumblr. I made my first account at 14 years old, I've been there over a decade. I did start moving to cohost before that fell apart? I mean the answer is obvious of course. I have friends on tumblr, I engage with fandom on tumblr. I post fic to tumblr, I make fanart. I reblog other people's fanworks.

And that got me wondering about the other social media sites and such that I'm on. Discord is, again, friends. I mean, Discord is getting worse all the time. But so is everything else. Twitter I don't use and don't really need anymore, but... oh wait, biggest modern social media, I have a relative with tens of thousands of followers, as a creative who hopes to one day make money off of my creations, I'm not sure leaving twitter is the smart play here. Facebook I technically mod a group, just so that I can offer tech support when the actual mod can't figure out how to do something.

I've technically started moving to Bluesky, but I'm not vibing with it, so I've been 'technically moving to bluesky' for months and haven't opened bluesky in about as long.

And so it continues. I really do feel trapped lately. Which is part of what motivated me to get my website back up and going!

Is there a good solution to this? I don't know. Most of my friends live in other countries or else on the other side of this one. I can't just delete all my social media accounts and tell everyone to email me (or write me letters) instead, no matter how romantic that sounds. I mean, I could do that, but I suspect I would just lose touch with everyone. And my online connections are really important to me! I don't get out too much for one reason or another so the internet is keeping me from going entirely stir crazy. That said I've recently gone out to eat alone a couple of times. It's nice to just exist in a public space.

In a tangentially related topic, since it's all tech woes... I miss windows xp. Hell I miss windows 7. My computer is windows 11, I hate it.

Every week or so I think about Linux. I could probably figure out how to set it up, but it's a lot of work, and I don't really wanna fuck up and break something.

I also think about non-android non-iOS smartphones.
